A. I have seven different types of passion flowers. not sure about ruby, but double check on it's limit for winters. Mine have always done the best in the ground, for first couple of weeks water daily to help the shock of transplanting. plant in full sun or else you will get a poor showing for the flowers and if it makes fruit double check that it is edible. some are poisonous while others are a great snack. it just really depends on your type of plant. several of mine make no fruit and the others just make an unviable shell. good luck and let me know if you need any more answers. oh, and the lady i buy from is grassyknowlesexotics.com. on her site she has great tips for upkeep with them.

Q. What would be fun to do during a week vacation in the Texas hill country in December?
Asked by gnettx - Fri Dec 15 16:51:49 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. In December, the weather is beautiful and perfect for a road trip! Do the wine trail! You can get a map of all the wineries and their locations. Take your map, go find the vineyards, and try all of those excellent wines. You can take tours at some of the properties, too. One worth mentioning is the McReynold's vineyard. This is not your typical vineyard. The couple that makes the wine invites you into their home for some wine and small talk and takes you on a tour explaining the whole process. Their vineyard is not pristine and is pretty overgrown, but their wine is some of the best you'll ever taste. Don't forget a desgnated driver and have fun.

Texas Hill Country?
Q. A haunted ranch house was featured on "Unsolved Mysteries" and it didn't give a location, it only said it was located in Texas Hill Country. The segment was about three cowboys who was using the house for a hunting lodge of some sort. Any ideas? I wanted to know where it was at; if anyone in that area had heard of it or seen it in the paper or something. I figured w/ it being on a national television show, it would be known. Let me clarify this; I know where the Texas Hill Country is, but I'm looking for the town that the house is located in and the possible address!

A. The Texas Hill Country is a region of Central Texas, USA, that features rolling, somewhat rugged, hills that consist primarily of limestone. The Hill Country terrain can be seen in San Antonio's northern suburbs and Austin's western suburbs. The region is the eastern portion of the Edwards Plateau bounded by the Balcones Fault on the east and the Llano Uplift to the west and north. The terrain is punctuated by a large number of limestone rocks and boulders and a thin layer of topsoil which makes the region prone to flash flooding. Several cities, including Austin, San Marcos, and New Braunfels were sited in the flat areas immediately to east of the Balcones Fault line where rivers flow across it, because of the limits of river navigation.… [cont.]

Does anyone in the Texas Hill Country have a good source for large bags of perlite? (2,3,or4 cubic feet each)?

It amazes me that in a hot and dry climate that would seem to beg for the use of perlite in lawns and golf greens would have perlite in such short supply. At first I thought he just wasn't trying hard enough in his online searches but I looked on my own and even found the wholesale agricultural buyer-and-seller-matching websites disappointing. A. Hi again. If you are wanting for Perlcrete mix, then I believe you can find 4 cu/ft bags of vermiculite at a nursery on Thousand Oaks in N. San Antonio. If this doesn't work, try masonry or horticulture supply stores. If you go the HeatStop route there is a very cheap supplier just south of San Antonio.

A. Don's fish camp in Martindale, right outside of San Marcos is great. Used to go there all the time in college. Mostly a party spot for Texas State University, but you can swim, float the river. This float is more "natural" than floating the comal or guadalupe. Far less people. I hope this helps you find the place, I used to know how to get there.

Or if you know of any others, I am open to try them. I think you are right. Wimberly sounds familiar. I just rather have it delivered to my door this time. A. I have been through the Hill Country once on a Vacation. I was in Fredrickburg, and ate at a great German Style restaurant there. The Bar was HUGE and all wood and with a Big Glass Mirror behind it. I have also been to Plano or Blanco I think it was, I would have to recheck it on the Map. It was right beside the river and they were having a classic car display at the time. I do remember it as a quiet small town, but very friendly. We were if I remember on our way from San Antonio to Austin , then on to Fort Worth/Dallasbut we were having so much fun we never really did make it Ft Worth/ Dallas. My father was from Ft. Worth. Q. I'm seriously considering setting up a base-camp in that region thru the winter. I adore the outdoors and love hunting and fishing. I hear the game in the region is plentiful, however I'm not familiar with the hunting and fishing regs in Texas yet. I'm also impressed with the many activities available in the region. Any tips from our Seniors that have spent time there would be greatly appreciated. I already know of an RV park to set up my rig on Potranco Road. I'm being treated at the VA Hospital in San Antonio and figure with gas the way it is, I should try to "stick closer to home" at least until my doctors release me. I do want to get out and about love exploring nature. My rig is currently parked on the Gulf Coast...I'm… [cont.]

A. I have been through the Hill Country once on a Vacation. I was in Fredrickburg, and ate at a great German Style restaurant there. A. Depends on the double billing that Texas politicians do. The frontage road for the Sam Houston Tollway was also called Hwy 8 so that they could claim federal funds for Hwy 8 for which Toll roads were not eligible for. I10 is also known as US90. US290 is also known as Hwy6 even though it's a spur road perpendicular to the rest of Hwy6.
